About voice feminisation

“I’ve changed my wardrobe, my name, told my manager, my parents, started hormone replacement therapy… I’m now presenting full time as a female. Finally. Feels like lifetime, but I’m doing it, I’m transitioning. What still gets to me the most is when I open my mouth, I sound like the former me, the plumber, the gravelly deep loud voice. It fills me with despair. I’m ashamed. I avoid talking as much as I can. But I have to keep working, to pay the bills, to support my kids. I hate talking to customers, especially on the phone. “Sara’s a women’s name” I’m told at least 20 times a day. I honestly don’t know what to do to pass as a female…”

For Transgender females, knowing how to ‘pass’ in society, communities, workplaces, households, relationships…to name a few, can be an overwhelming and frightening task.

Global research has proven that carefully prescribed vocal exercises by a Speech-language therapist can lead to complete feminisation of voice. With knowledge of the intricacies of voice physiology and acoustics, a ’gender-passable’ voice can be found.

Many clients have done their own work on their voice before contacting ReVoice Clinic. Often, they’re lost in the mountains of online videos and are left with unsatisfying results. Without guidance, individuals tend to focus on increasing vocal pitch alone. They tend to place too much demand on the voice musculature, causing vocal strain, reduced vocal power or sustainability or even a squeaky, ‘Micky Mouse’ voice quality. Often other aspects of communication are not known about, so the voice is not balanced with other important communication features.

ReVoice Voice Feminisation gives our client’s the results they are looking for. Clients learn a new voice technique at each session with the focus on combining these techniques into daily life. Through this process clients learn to fine tweak typical feminine voice features such as vocal pitch, resonance, speech rate, articulation patterns. They also learn how to use more feminine sentence structures and body language.

Clients who are ready for change and committed to home practice usually find their authentic voice in 8 sessions, but the exact number of sessions will be determined with the client and therapist. After the therapy contract finishes clients can book a 'booster’ session if it is needed to keep them on track.
