Voice masculinisation therapy
You may have been told that voice therapy is not very common for individuals transitioning from female to male gender. This is because Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) increases the size of the vocal folds, lowering the voice, making it deeper, or ‘masculine’. A change in the structure of the vocal folds can be difficult to deal with at first, so prescribed vocal exercises can be just the trick to optimise the full function of the ‘new’ voice. Masculinisation therapy can also benefit individuals who have not started HRT, using carefully selected vocal exercises to access a healthy, sustainable sound.
A ‘low’ voice is just one part of being perceived by society as male. There are many other communication features that are generally perceived to be ‘masculine.’ Once mastered these will become powerful tools in an individual’s transition.
No matter where an individual is on the road to gender transitioning ReVoice Clinic is dedicated to going above and beyond to help.
